Why Twitter is a Great Source for Organic Web Traffic

As an experienced Twitter user and someone who has been using Twitter actively for several years already, I know not only from personal experience but from discussions with other Twitter users that Twitter is the main source of organic web traffic for many. Depending upon your target markets, Twitter is certainly a social media channel for digital entrepreneurs and marketers, and anyone who wants to build an online business.

Why is that?

As the map below indicates, the web traffic to annemariayritys.com expands almost the whole world, with the largest audience and most website visitors from the United States of America. Most of this organic web traffic stems from Twitter.

Beware of Online Scammers!

Last night I received an inquiry through my website annemariayritys.com from a person who suggested that he would write and feature my story at Entrepreneur.com for USD 2.000, claiming that the article would give me more credibility. I searched the person’s name online, and found nothing.
Why should I pay USD 2.000 for an article in Entrepreneur.com to some random, unknown individual? Be careful with all those many scammers out there; there are plenty of them on digital and social media.

How Do You Analyze Social Media?

I decided to publicize my FB contact list to my FB contacts. Earlier I decided to keep my contact list anonymous, visible to me only, due to competitive reasons but after all, we live in a free market economy. I also decided to publicize my LinkedIn contact list to my LinkedIn contacts.
 
Now everyone who is willing to do so can scroll through my FB contact list and decide for themselves whether I have bought my FB contacts or not. Everyone is also welcome to scroll through all my Twitter contacts/followers @annemariayritys + my 3 other Twitter accounts and check out how many of my contacts/followers are real and how many are robots or fakes. Just to ensure that I never again have to debate with anyone about whether I have bought social media contacts/followers or not.
 
I do hope, however, that anyone who wishes to blame or accuse me for buying social media followers, could take the time to make a more profound analysis of who has bought, where, when, and at what price.
 
At the same time, the person investigating the purchase of social media followers could also check which users in Finland and worldwide have bought Instagram-followers, YouTube-subscribers, Facebook-followers etc. + paid for advertising in various social media channels.
 
Furthermore, anyone who likes to investigate people and brand behavior on social media, can check who have bought likes and retweets etc. in different social media channels, including Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and Twitter. Just to get a broader perspective on things and to learn how digital and social media works.
 
It is wrong to attack single social media users, blaming these for buying contacts or followers, especially if the analysis about the topic is poor and lacks any kind of in-depth thought or analysis.

Jokainen on myös tervetullut skrollaamaan Twitter-tilini @annemariayritys + 3 muuta tiliäni Twitterissä, ja tarkistamaan, kuinka moni seuraajista on aito ja kuinka moni on robotti tai feikki. Ihan vain siksi, ettei tarvitse enää väitellä kenenkään kanssa siitä, olenko ostanut some-seuraajia vai en.
 
Toivoisin kuitenkin, että seuraava ihminen joka alkaa minua ahdistelemaan tai syyttelemään some-seuraajien ostamisesta, voisi tehdä hieman kattavamman analyysin siitä, kuka on ostanut, mistä, milloin ja millä hinnalla.
 
Voisi samalla tarkistaa, ketkä kaikki käyttäjät Suomessa ja maailmanlaajuisesti ovat ostaneet Instagram-seuraajia, YouTube-tilaajia, Facebook-seuraajia, maksaneet mainoksista eri some-kanavissa jne.
 
Lisäksi voi tarkistaa, ketkä ovat ostaneet tykkäyksiä eri some- ja digikanavissa, uudelleentwiittauksia jne. Näin saisi asioihin laajempaa perspektiiviä ja oppisi ymmärtämään kuinka digitaalinen ja sosiaalinen media oikeasti toimii.
 
On väärin, että yksittäisten some-käyttäjien kimppuun hyökätään syyllistäen näitä kavereiden tai seuraajien ostamisesta, varsinkaan kun asiasta ei ole minkäänlaista kunnon analyysiä eikä asioita mietitä laajemmin/syvemmällä tasolla.
 
Muualla maailmassa on ihan arkipäivää ja normaalia, että yrittäjillä tai yksityishenkilöillä on esim. 100.000, puoli miljoonaa tai miljoona seuraajaa somessa. Suomessa on niin pienet kotimaan markkinat, että heti kun joku vähänkin poikkeaa joukosta, joku kateellinen hyökkää kimppuun.
 
Olisiko mahdollista ajatella ja ymmärtää, että maailmassa on reilusti yli 7 miljardia ihmistä väestöä ja että ihmiset jotka ajattelevat globaalisti, voivat verkostoitua ja brändätä bisneksiään somessa myös kansainvälisesti ja globaalisti? Kaikki eivät ole tai halua olla juntteja, kuten moni suomalainen edelleen haluaa olla.
 
Kai täällä on jokaisella oikeus olla mitä haluaa, lain määrittelemissä rajoissa? Ei kai kansainvälinen bisnes ole Suomessa mikään rikos? Olen niin kyllästynyt juntteihin, jotka eivät näe omaa napaansa pidemmälle.

When marketing your business online/on social media, it does pay off to do your homework before engaging in/wasting your precious effort and time on useless activities. PLANNING before execution, as many digital/online marketing strategists would say. Unless, of course, you enjoy spending a lot of effort and time online just for the sake of commenting, engaging, sharing and learning. After all, we do learn best from our failures and mistakes, but actually taking the time to research how digital/online marketing actually works may save you from a lot of head ache and wasted time.

If your digital marketing efforts are not yielding any results or wants to improve its results, ask yourself the following questions:

  1. What is your business doing online?
  2. What is your business selling?
  3. Where is your business offering its services?
  4. How can your business best reach its customers online?
  5. Which digital/social media channels does your business need to be present on to achieve optimal results?
  6. Who/what could help your business achieve its digital/online results, and improve these?
  7. How does your business measure its social media ROI?
  8. How will your business target its segment/s and find/be found by its (potential) customers online?
  9. What can your business learn from its mistakes?
  10. How can your business benchmark, i.e. learn from other businesses/share experiences?

When you are branding and marketing your business online, on social media, and through specific networks such as Twitter Inc., Facebook, LinkedIn, Google, Instagram etc., you will want to offer your potential customers something of real value. One of the perhaps most important questions to ask yourself when branding and marketing your business online is, how do you differentiate from others? What makes your business so special, unique and valuable that customers would want to buy from you, not only once, but hopefully become loyal clients who buy from your company on a regular basis, and who even become your brand ambassadors, people who love your brand so much that they are in fact more than willing to share your brand story with others.

There are several possible ways of differentiation. These are also called the 7P´s or the marketing mix: PRODUCT, PLACE, PRICE, PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT, PROMOTION, PEOPLE, and, PROCESS. Which one of these do you think is the most important, and why?

If you are an engineer, you will perhaps say that the product is the most important. To some extent, this may be the case. Yet, you can have the best product(s) available on the entire market, but if you fail doing anything else but creating products, it will not get you very far in your efforts to actually make a single sale. Your business will have to promote the products/services. And, find a place and a physical environment to do so.

With online business transactions booming and growing year by year, what would be a better place to promote your products and services than online? If you want your slice of the huge cake, start planning and executing your online marketing strategy now. You will need not only a business website to promote your brand, but also a presence in at least some carefully chosen social media sites, including Twitter Inc., LinkedIn, Facebook, YouTube and Instagram. You will also have to learn how to approach people who will become your customers, or create an inbound marketing strategy that will pull the right people to your brand. All of this requires for your business to implement the right process, and to the right prices.

Before branding yourself/your business online, including Twitter Inc., make sure to understand what branding signifies. What is a brand? Is it a logo? Is it a business card with your name and your logo printed on it?

A BRAND is a personal and/or business image with certain values. It is definitely NOT only the visible logo of your business, or the printed text on your business card. Being a brand is recognizing your core values, and actually living and communicating those values to your clients. Without any core values, a business or activity cannot exist. A brand with its values should clearly express your business morals and ethics and be at the core of your business strategy, communicating at all times the mission, vision, and purpose of your business. Before launching a new business, make sure to define your core values which will be your guiding principles around which you will build your business.

Successful branding requires for you/r business to:

 

  • Define clearly what you/r business values are/what you want to accomplish with you/r business activities
  • Communicate your brand to your clients in a captivating way
  • Believe in your brand image and its sustainability. If you do not believe in your brand, who else do you think will do so?
  • Why should anyone do business with YOU?
  • What makes you stand out from the rest?
  • The amount of effort and work you are ready and willing to invest in communicating and engaging your “audience”, i.e. existing clients, prospects, other stakeholders.
  • How adaptive is your brand to changes?

 

 

How transformable/adaptive to change you are:

In today´s world, the survival of a brand depends not only upon its ability to react to external changes, but also how well it mirrors the needs of consumers and their preferences.

A brand also has to have credibility and be capable of winning clients´ confidence in order to thrive and to move forward.

Instead of stagnating as a brand, focus upon providing your clients with quality work/products, great customer experience/service, caring about your clients, and engaging your clients in various ways. Ask your clients what they want, what they need, and be willing to deliver tailored solutions. Or, create demand for the services you offer.

Branding is essential for any individual, and business, regardless of size.

Branding is about communicating your/your business identity to your clients/potential clients.

Twitter Inc. is an excellent communications platform and branding tool, since:

 

  • You can rather easily reach and build an international/global community and find customers in your target market
  • Twitter is inexpensive! Most tools are free of charge, unless you want to turbo-charge your business growth e.g. through Twitter advertisements

Twitter branding/marketing is efficient, but you/r business must invest either TIME or MONEY (or, both) to ensure brand recognition on Twitter.

Unless you personally have the time (AND, patience!), consider hiring a professional/team of professionals/a social media marketing expert to take care of the work for you. Make sure that you know the terms and conditions of their service, and that you can rely upon the content they are sharing on your behalf. As a small business owner, you can also create and use your own content, and share it through a content management service such as SOCIAL JUKEBOX.

In essence, branding is you/r business, identity. What you and your business stand for, and how well you integrate your identity to all of your business practices/personal activities.

Think about some of the largest, most expensive and best known brands in the world. What are the secrets behind their success?

ALL successful brands have started from zero, and managed to brand themselves. If they can do it, so can you!

Every person/business has and is a unique brand. Not everyone aims to become the largest in their industry – it is a question about what you are willing to work towards, and to achieve.

Your brand identity could be about creating the most unforgettable, tailored travel experiences to your clients (e.g. a specialized travel agency, or a hotel). It could also be that your business is about helping your clients solve various business-related issues, e.g. regarding business expansion into new markets (market entry consultancy).

Your brand identity is defined by what you/your business is about, what your expertise is, and how passionate you are about the products/services you are offering your clients. And, how your services differ from those provided by others. Expertise, customer service, you name it!
