How to Brand Your Business Online?

Before branding yourself/your business online, including Twitter Inc., make sure to understand what branding signifies. What is a brand? Is it a logo? Is it a business card with your name and your logo printed on it?

A BRAND is a personal and/or business image with certain values. It is definitely NOT only the visible logo of your business, or the printed text on your business card. Being a brand is recognizing your core values, and actually living and communicating those values to your clients. Without any core values, a business or activity cannot exist. A brand with its values should clearly express your business morals and ethics and be at the core of your business strategy, communicating at all times the mission, vision, and purpose of your business. Before launching a new business, make sure to define your core values which will be your guiding principles around which you will build your business.

Successful branding requires for you/r business to:

 

  • Define clearly what you/r business values are/what you want to accomplish with you/r business activities
  • Communicate your brand to your clients in a captivating way
  • Believe in your brand image and its sustainability. If you do not believe in your brand, who else do you think will do so?
  • Why should anyone do business with YOU?
  • What makes you stand out from the rest?
  • The amount of effort and work you are ready and willing to invest in communicating and engaging your “audience”, i.e. existing clients, prospects, other stakeholders.
  • How adaptive is your brand to changes?

 

 

How transformable/adaptive to change you are:

In today´s world, the survival of a brand depends not only upon its ability to react to external changes, but also how well it mirrors the needs of consumers and their preferences.

A brand also has to have credibility and be capable of winning clients´ confidence in order to thrive and to move forward.

Instead of stagnating as a brand, focus upon providing your clients with quality work/products, great customer experience/service, caring about your clients, and engaging your clients in various ways. Ask your clients what they want, what they need, and be willing to deliver tailored solutions. Or, create demand for the services you offer.

Branding is essential for any individual, and business, regardless of size.

Branding is about communicating your/your business identity to your clients/potential clients.

Twitter Inc. is an excellent communications platform and branding tool, since:

 

  • You can rather easily reach and build an international/global community and find customers in your target market
  • Twitter is inexpensive! Most tools are free of charge, unless you want to turbo-charge your business growth e.g. through Twitter advertisements

Twitter branding/marketing is efficient, but you/r business must invest either TIME or MONEY (or, both) to ensure brand recognition on Twitter.

Unless you personally have the time (AND, patience!), consider hiring a professional/team of professionals/a social media marketing expert to take care of the work for you. Make sure that you know the terms and conditions of their service, and that you can rely upon the content they are sharing on your behalf. As a small business owner, you can also create and use your own content, and share it through a content management service such as SOCIAL JUKEBOX.

In essence, branding is you/r business, identity. What you and your business stand for, and how well you integrate your identity to all of your business practices/personal activities.

Think about some of the largest, most expensive and best known brands in the world. What are the secrets behind their success?

ALL successful brands have started from zero, and managed to brand themselves. If they can do it, so can you!

Every person/business has and is a unique brand. Not everyone aims to become the largest in their industry – it is a question about what you are willing to work towards, and to achieve.

Your brand identity could be about creating the most unforgettable, tailored travel experiences to your clients (e.g. a specialized travel agency, or a hotel). It could also be that your business is about helping your clients solve various business-related issues, e.g. regarding business expansion into new markets (market entry consultancy).

Your brand identity is defined by what you/your business is about, what your expertise is, and how passionate you are about the products/services you are offering your clients. And, how your services differ from those provided by others. Expertise, customer service, you name it!

How to Drive Regular Organic Traffic to Your Website

As a blogger/vlogger, entrepreneur, freelancer, and small business owner, you have a purpose for publishing online. Most likely you are publishing for one or more of the following reasons: creating an audience for your product/service, sharing your expertise and knowledge, helping your (potential) customers, branding and marketing your service, engaging with your audience or building long-lasting, valuable relationships with new/potential clients.

To manifest all of the abundance in online business activities, you have to know what you are doing and to whom you are doing it, but also why you are doing it. Then, you clear the pathway for customers being able to find you online. It is rarely enough to have a social media account, unless there is any kind of activity, letting people know what you and your business are about, nor is it enough to have content. You may have the best content in the world, however, if no one finds it online, you have wasted a lot of effort, time, and perhaps even money while creating the content in the first place.

You have to know how to drive organic, high quality traffic to your website. Yes, to your website, unless you actually think that owning a Facebook account alone is enough for your personal/business activities. Most often it is not. That is why you must have a personal/business website, where your publish your content. Then, you can have as many social media accounts as you need and want to, all of which will support your website activities. It does not matter if you are a crappy writer who focuses on publishing images only, or videos. If this is the case, you have a website where you publish your visual content along with your Instagram and Twitter accounts, and your YouTube channel.

The individual accounts alone will most likely not create much of a revenue stream: it is what you offer in these channels that will make you a living, or a fortune. Since managing all your social media accounts by yourself will be quite time-consuming, it is worthwhile to consider where you invest your effort, money and time. In terms of organic traffic, less is sometimes more: it is all about doing the right things i.e. finding the right customers through the right channels. If your market is in China, you will have a completely different strategy for reaching your customers.

Make sure to choose the right channels for the right purposes, unless you can afford tapping in the darkness. Past mistakes are of course great learning experiences, but who wants to waste spending time on useless social media activities when there are more important things to accomplish? Not to underestimate the importance of social media, especially if you use social media to create a living for yourself. You just have to optimize your usage of various digital media and social media channels to have more time for a life outside the Internet.

Driving organic traffic to your website starts with having a social media strategy, which in turn includes your project plan, budget, and strategic execution for achieving your short-term, and long-term goals related to your business and its services.

Why Should Your Business Be on Twitter?

For most small business owners and entrepreneurs, Twitter Inc. is definitely one of the most important social media sites to create your brand presence. Why is that? Why not focus only on for instance Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram or YouTube?

There is no other social media platform comparable with Twitter. Twitter has for years been among the top ten most visited websites worldwide. Regardless of its stagnation in terms of amount of users worldwide, Twitter is the easiest place to connect with brands, celebrities, businesses, and professionals of interest.

Not only can Twitter be used as a means of customer service, but also as a general external communications channel, a branding tool, a marketing tool, a pr tool: the amount of purposes Twitter can be utilized for is almost countless. Of course, be careful about sharing any sensitive business/other data on Twitter, unless you/r company has no secrets at all! After all, in today´s knowledge economy, managing information and sharing knowledge openly in networks/with different stakeholders can be a competitive advantage rather than a mere threat to your business.

Use Twitter as a part of your social media marketing strategy: integrate it into your website (on WordPress), from where you can automatically share posts to your various social media sites, including Twitter. If creating and posting videos on YouTube, you can also easily share these on Twitter to promote your ideas/content. Moreover, you can use Twitter to engage your audience and drive more online traffic to any website through the usage of backlinks.

Regardless of the amount of activity on your business Twitter account, make sure to be present and share what your business is about. Connect with your target audience, engage them, and make your Twitter timeline a unique place for them to visit by sharing relevant information/posts related to your business/industry.

How to Create Your Online Business in Five Easy Steps

In today´s digital world, where traditional employment is becoming increasingly much insecure, taking personal responsibility for your income is more important than ever. What could be a better opportunity than to unleash and to use your creativity by starting your personal online business? By doing so, you are not only proactive and responsible for your income and life, but also have the opportunity to make use of ALL the creative potential within you, and ALL of your skills.

Here are a few useful tips for creating and starting your online business:

1. Determine your goals and values. 

Before starting, make sure to know what your goals and values are. While making money is important for survival, living and working a purposeful life is in fact more important. At least, do determine what you are not willing to do to reach your goals! This often includes shutting out certain activities, or even complete industries, while working on your goal(s) and sticking to your life values. If you have a special niche that you are interested in, do not be afraid of going after your dreams! After all, we live only once and following your passion may be more important than having a secure paycheck once a month. And, what could be better than creating a (secure) income by sticking to your values and following your passion?

2. Start small, but dream BIG! 

What most people are afraid of, is to think too big. Make sure to be an exception to the rule! Dare to dream big, and do not let naysayers talk you out of your goals. Or, even better, do not even involve naysayers. Shut them out, involve people who support you, and be prepared to put all your focus upon believing in yourself and your vision. Some entrepreneurs say that if you have a plan B, you do not believe enough in your idea/in yourself/in your capability to execute your great ideas into action, and reality. Not everyone can “jump off” the cliff and become 100% entrepreneurs at once. If that is the case for you, start small and build your business as a hobby or as a second income beside your full-time job. Just make sure that your current employer/contract allows for any outside activities and check that what you do is legal. Planning is an essential part of entrepreneurship: many entrepreneurs fail at this, which is why it is so important to have a three-year, or even a five-year-plan. Both long-term and short-term planning are essential for business success. Focusing upon your daily, weekly, and monthly activities is as important as focusing upon where you want to be in three, five, or ten years from now.

3. Determine your WHY

Determine your why for being in business. If you do not know why you are in the business you are, you will be trampled down by competition in zero time. Be inspired, passionate, and have a clear purpose for what you do. In addition to knowing your why, make sure to know your where, and to whom: segmentation is an essential aspect of any business, whether you are operating online or offline. Without knowing your why, where, and to whom, you will be segmenting your business to basically everyone. Needless to say, not everyone will be your customer: at least not a loyal/paying customer, so segmentation can save you a lot of effort, money, and time.

4. Create your website on WordPress.com

Depending upon the type of online business, you do not necessarily need a business website. If you are for instance trading the stock market, there is no need for a personal/business website. However, creating a business/personal website for instance on the world´s most used platform WordPress is completely free of charge. WordPress is not only the most commonly used website worldwide, but also one of the most visited. You can choose between several different options, starting with a completely free-of-charge version and upgrading to a business version where you can easily not only monetize your website in a number of ways but also connect it to all your other social media sites, such as Twitter, and improve your overall web traffic including search engine marketing (SEM) and search engine optimization (SEO).

5.  Focus, focus, focus!

Never ever be afraid of making mistakes. We all make mistakes, all the time! After all, what would life be without mistakes? Just make sure not to get stuck with your mistakes, as long as what you do is legal. Be brave enough to experiment, but also remember to keep your focus on your goal(s). Find people to collaborate with, or at least be generous with your (online) networks. There is no such thing as a self-made entrepreneur or person, because we all do depend upon other people and external events. Even if you are working completely alone, you are always dependent upon the outside world. Give credit to people around you, especially to those who do deserve it. Be thankful for all the lessons you learn through your experiences. The hardest lessons in life and business are the most valuable ones. Do not let them hinder you from focusing upon your goals, and from striving forward and making your business and life a success.

Why Should You Empower Women?

By empowering women around the world and giving girls and women equal opportunities in ALL countries, we can develop an increasingly much sustainable world where human rights of everyone, regardless of gender or any other external attributes, are acknowledged and respected. There is no reason to discriminate another human being for any external attribute. In fact, research indicates that for instance students can all succeed equally well, as long as they are given equal opportunities and are encouraged by their teacher. In the right environment, surrounded by the right people, and positively challenged, for instance students have been able to increase their IQ by 50% within one year. Pedophilia And Rape Are Serious Human Rights Violations That Should Be Taken Seriously

Nothing personal against immigrants or refugees since I have myself been an immigrant many times during my life, and I know that many crimes are committed by locals in all countries, for instance what sociopath Breivik did in Oslo a few years ago. However, we have to understand that refugees from very different cultures may have serious problems with integration into another country´s culture, unless receiving enough support and instructions.

Moreover, if “imported” from war zones, including countries that exploit children as soldiers, such as Kongo, please remember that many of these people are most likely deeply traumatized. This does not signify that all of these people become murderers, rapists, or pedophiles, but I am deeply devastated when finding out that in the past two years, refugees from a number of countries have committed horrible crimes in Finland. In 2015, a refugee male assaulted, raped, and burned alive his young Finnish girlfriend because she had broken up with him a month earlier. She was only 17 years old. This year, another refugee assaulted and raped a 10-year-old girl in Finland.

Since sentences in Finland are ridiculously short for rapes and pedophilia, the man who assaulted and raped the 10-year-old was sentenced “only” for assaulting a minor (pedophilia) but not for rape! Apparently there was not enough evidence to prove that he had forced the 10-year-old girl to have sex with him. As if a 10-year-old could decide for herself if she wants to have sexual intercourse with an adult man, when she is still a child!

Now our country´s Minister of Justice questions whether rape sentences should be harder in Finland. F*CK YES they should be! Pedophiles and rapists should be sentenced to lifetime in prison. It is unacceptable that men think that they can rape children, girls and women and get away with it. In Finland, the average time in prison for a rapist is less than two years. Especially if it was the predator´s first rape, he gets away with a shorter sentence. As if raping someone for the first time would be a justification to shorten the sentence.

Pedophilia and rape are ILLEGAL in ALL COUNTRIES WORLDWIDE. These are violations against human rights, women´s rights and children´s rights. All countries should take action to change and to improve their legislation regarding pedophilia and rape.

How Can Artificial Intelligence Improve The World Energy Market?

With a rapidly increasing number of companies using some form of artificial intelligence (AI), such as big data automation, predictive/prescriptive analytics, machine learning, expert systems, neural networks, interactive voice response technologies, and avatar technologies, in their business models, artificial intelligence is forecast to disrupt all industries. With only a small percentage of businesses not yet using or not even planning to utilize artificial intelligence in any way, according to Infosys and Harvard Business Review, some opinions state that within a decade from now, managers not using AI will be replaced by those who do. 

As stated by Infosys, the main reasons for applying various forms of AI, as the findings of the study “Amplifying Human Potential: Towards Purposeful Artificial Intelligence” reveal, were:

  1. Automation of IT processes
  2. Automation of business processes
  3. Increase innovation
  4. Improve employee knowledge and skills
  5. Increase employee productivity
  6. Improve decision-making
  7. Increase revenues
  8. Save costs
  9. Improve go-to-market time
  10. Improve customer experience

Franklin Wolfe writes in How Artificial Intelligence Will Revolutionize the Energy Industry, a special edition on Harvard University ́s blog on August 28, 2017, artificial intelligence and the energy sector are becoming more and more interconnected, whereby choosing a career path in either of these sectors does not necessarily signify excluding the other. Phil Goldstein, on the other hand, writes in his article in BizTech on October 25, 2017 that AI can support the energy industry in many ways: in improving energy efficiency, predicting possible blackouts and failures, and even support human beings in detecting completely new sources of energy. 

According to technology research and advisory firm Gartner, 85% of all customer interactions will be managed without a human by 2020. Global Energy Business BP already explores how performance in the oil and gas industries can be improved with the help of artificial intelligence. According to technology expert Walker at BP, AI algorithms i.e. processes are about to transform how BP optimizes its operations.

How Can Circular Economies Protect The Earth From Destruction?

Our world is literally drowning in GARBAGE. Or, to express it with more elegance: our planet is overburdened with the consumption of human beings: Garbage, litter, waste, pollution, toxins, and chemicals. Although the annual growth rate of world population is slightly decreasing, it is expected to reach 9.2 billion by 2050, and 11.2 billion by 2100, from the roughly 7.6 billion in 2017, 4.4 billion in 1980, three (3) billion in 1960, and 1.65 billion in the early 20th century. 

Our consumption habits are overloading Earth. According to calculations, citizens in many countries consume at a rate that is unbearable for our planet and its ecosystem. The WWF states that the average ecological footprint for instance in Sweden suggests that we would need 3.8 Earths to accommodate the current level of consumption. The countries with the largest ecological footprint per person are Kuwait, Australia, United Arab Emirates, Qatar, United States of America, Canada, Sweden, Bahrain, Trinidad and Tobago, and Singapore. However, it is not as simple as that – some countries “export” their ecological footprints to others, but ultimately it all comes back to us. We cannot afford to continue exporting our national environmental problems to other countries. 

How can circular economies help us protect our planet from further damage and perhaps even complete destruction? We have already managed to cause perhaps irreversible damage to our Earth within the past century alone, through improper management of natural resources, insufficient waste management and recycling practices, air, soil and water pollution through industrial activities, causing anthropogenic climate change through excess greenhouse gas emissions into Earth’s atmosphere, which end up polluting our environment, animals and ourselves as a species. Majority of wastewater worldwide ends up back in our environment without any treatment or purification, leading to extreme pollution and toxins both in our air, land, and water sources.

It is uncertain whether we can save ourselves and our planet from more environmental damage. However, creating and maintaining circular economies where damage to the environment and all that lives on this planet can be minimized with an increasingly much efficient usage of natural resources, including the improvement of energy efficiency, better wastewater management, increased recycling, and the reduction of harmful and toxic (greenhouse gas) emissions is already known to be beneficial and reduces costs in all areas of life. As with any other activity, legislation and policies play a significant role in how we shape our economies and create our future on this planet.

For instance the European Union has its own Circular Economy Strategy, a virtual open space platform which facilitates policy dialogue and offers both information and good practices for economies (within the EU) to take action in terms of the creation and improvement of a circular economy. According to SITRA, the Finnish innovation fund, we have a better way of capitalism, a new increasingly much sustainable era where our economies have to be rethought and reshaped. The Finnish innovation fund SITRA has been nominated for the world ́s premier circular economy award, and leading for instance a project upon circular economies. A circular economy is one that not only creates and designs improved and (more) sustainable brands, consumer goods, and services, but takes into consideration the ecological footprint of the complete product life-cycle from design/ manufacture, throughout the supply chain from retailer to consumer, and back to the recycling and/or re-use of materials. It also includes innovating completely new methods and materials for improved manufacturing and production.

How this can and will be done has to be considered not only by support from both legislation and policies, but also through innovation and management practices in companies. Innovation and improvement can be supported for instance by using common sense, questioning current ways of doing things, evaluating business processes, and minimizing/ eliminating useless waste through the implementation of best practices, and utilizing methodologies such as kaizen, lean (manufacturing) and/or six sigma, or a combination of these.

Natural Gas as a Source of Methane Emissions Worldwide

With the United States of America currently leading the production of natural gas hydrocarbons, followed by Russia, Iran, Qatar, Canada, China, The European Union, Norway, Saudi Arabia, and Turkmenistan, natural gas along with the oil/petroleum industry account for 20% of total methane emissions worldwide. In its World Oil Outlook 2040, OPEC estimates that the largest upcoming energy demand will come from natural gas, with an average annual growth of 0.4 % from 2015 to 2040. (Global Methane Initiative 2010; Central Intelligence Agency 2017; U.S. Energy Information Administration 2017; OPEC 2017).

Following table chart illustrates OPEC´s forecast for the world primary energy demand by fuel type from 2015 to 2040. According to OPEC´s estimations, the demand for gas will increase by a rate of 1.8% p.a. during this time period, with the majority of demand coming from non-OECD countries and the most rapid economic growth in the developing world. OPEC projects the global economy in 2040 being 226% in comparison to 2016, with 3/4 of growth coming from developing countries. China and India are forecast to account for almost 40% of the global GDP in 2040. (OPEC 2017. World Oil Outlook 2040).

The OPEC acknowledges the relation between population growth and energy demand, however, considering a number of variables for instance in consumer trends. It also states how energy markets are affected by government policies and recognizes the need to monitor these on a regular basis, taking into consideration for instance the Paris Agreement and the Sustainable Development Goals, with energy efficiency and clean energy now trending development. The OPEC is closely monitoring worldwide energy market and policy developments, mentioning the USA, the European Union, China, and India at the forefront.

OPEC estimates that total world primary energy demand by fuel type from 2015 to 2040 will see an increase of 3.6% for gas, 1,5% for nuclear energy, 0.3% for hydro energy, and 4% for other renewables, while the demand for oil would decrease by 4.2%, coal demand decreasing by 5.1%, and biomass demand decreasing by 0.1% during the time frame. The OPEC identifies energy efficiency as a critical uncertainty for the energy market with policies concentrating on reducing emissions through a number of measures related to financial and fiscal instruments. (OPEC 2017. World Oil Outlook 2040).

The U.S. Energy Information Administration presents natural gas as a proportionately clean burning fossil fuel, although exploration, drilling and production have direct impacts on the environment, in addition to the fact that natural gas consists mainly of methane which is a powerful greenhouse gas. Leaks from natural gas-related activities such as pipelines are causing toxic anthropogenic methane emissions. (eia 2017). Despite of the many environmental and health risks related to fossil fuels such as natural gas, the global energy market will continue to depend on these. The OPEC projects that oil and gas combined will supply for more than 50% of global energy needs between 2015-2040. Gas alone is estimated to have a share of 29% in OECD, 20.8% in developing countries, and 45.4% in Eurasia in 2040. In China, gas is forecast to account for 10.6% of energy demand in 2040, while coal is expected to drop down to 48.6% from 64.3% in 2015. (OPEC 2017).

The OPEC estimates that the highest growth in gas demand in the OECD region will be in OECD America, recognizing key influences related to the overall demand of natural gas and its dependency on multiple critical factors including gas supplies, competition,  regulations, and pricing.

For instance in Finland, the national Energy Authority reports that “The Finnish natural gas market has been under sector-specific regulatory supervision since the assertion of the Natural Gas Market Act in August 2000”. The natural gas market in Finland has currently no competition, with 100% of the natural gas is being imported through one pipeline from Russia and traded on the Finnish market by one single company. In Finland, the demand for natural gas has been in decline for several reasons, with natural gas accounting for some eight (8%) of total generation fuel mix in 2014, with the baseline for energy demand being market-based. (energy authority Ref: 1842/601/2015/; Finnish Energy 2017).
